Creative writing is a skill, and like any skill it can be taught. Story Craft sets out how.
Built from the Born Storytellers in class program, Story Craft is a theory and teaching manual for the craft of dramatic story writing. It starts with the question most writing programs skip: what is a story? From there it works outward through character, the circuitry of other characters, setting, conflict, plot and structure, dialogue and scenes, and voice and point of view.
Part One gives teachers and students the theory. Part Two turns it into a seven-step project that takes a writer from a first idea to a story they can pitch. Part Three offers further exercises and discussion topics for extending practice. Throughout, the theory is offered to inform thinking, trigger ideas and build habits of writing practice.
Can be used in conjunction with Story Craft II.

About the author
Dr Kevin Price is a novelist, English teacher and long-term student of story. He began earning his living as a writer in 1988, as a magazine columnist and advertising copywriter. In 2005 he founded the Born Storytellers, a creative writing program taught in Western Australian schools and writers centres, which has published more than 60 anthologies of students' work and over 600 young authors. His doctoral research in creative writing at Murdoch University produced the political thriller Poetic Licence, also published by Crotchet Quaver noteworthy publications.
